Sophie & Carl, a Dreamy Summer Wedding

This greatly anticipated day was planned to include both the parents of Sophie and Carl. But now as the sun shines brightly on them and one person is missing, the warmth from the sun embraces them tightly and we know they are being looked over from above for their very special day.

Why did you choose the location you did?

I grew up in Rangitaiki and spent my childhood spending time at Poronui with my childhood best friend who lived there. We also grew up spending time in the Kaimanawas and Kawekas on many camping/hunting adventures. The Mackenize clan has been spending time in these hills for decades with Carl and his family camping and hunting around this area. Every March & April, chopper flights out of Helisika for the Roar have been a regular feature for both families as well. Poronui therefore was a special location for us both.

Did you have any “concerns” about the day beforehand and, if so, how were they overcome?

No concerns – there was zero wedding stress. Claire had literally everything under control so all we had to do was turn up and enjoy the day!

Who helped you organise your big day? Who was involved in the planning?

We kept things super simple with everything so there wasn’t too much to plan. Poronui managed everything on the day (food, setup, staff etc) so Claire helped ensure that everything ran smoothly.

What was your favourite part of the planning process?

Coming out to Poronui and having our first visit to Blake House – Wow – what an incredible spot!

What’s your most precious memory of the day?

The whole day was incredible – mostly just having all our favourite people in one place. Getting the whole dance floor up to “do the macarena” was epic

What did Poronui contribute to the memories of your wedding day?

Claire and her team made sure everything was under control so we could just enjoy it. She even organised a special helicopter flyover which was so cool and unexpected. And the location is simply stunning!

Do you have a favourite wedding photograph, and where was it taken?

We have so many favourite photos from around Poronui that we loved – we were spoilt for choices for where we could get shots! (attached)

Was there anything you would change? Eg the one thing you might have done differently?

Nothing – everything was perfect!

What sort of feedback did you get from friends and family?

Everyone said the location was absolutely stunning, and we have been told by literally every guest that the food was the best they have ever had at a wedding (thanks, Prue & Yum Food Co!). The venison was a massive hit!
