About
Poronui is a 16,000-acre luxury sporting estate in the foothills of the Kaimanawa Mountain Ranges, where outdoor enthusiasts come to pursue their passions.
A true slice of New Zealand wilderness
The back-country holds a special place in the heart of all New Zealanders. As a country we place high value on being able to hunt, hike, explore and fish throughout vast National Forest Parks. “Going bush” is a national past time.
True Kiwis like nothing better than the sun on their back, the earthy clean smell of the bush and the complete absence of man-made noise in the New Zealand wilderness.
We provide our guests with a taste of so much that is special about New Zealand. Even more impressive is the range of natural habitats, wildlife, activities and environmental features in one location.
Your private outdoor playground
From the river to the ridge line, there is always something calling. Fly fish for trophy trout, ride across open farmland, bike through native bush, hike to a hidden lookout, or take aim on the clay range. Add a hands-on cooking class, a guided wine tasting, or an afternoon in the spa, and every day at Poronui shapes itself around what you love most.
Health & Safety
Adventure should feel exhilarating, not risky, and we take that balance seriously. Every guide is trained in first aid and emergency response, and every activity, from horse riding to fly fishing to mountain biking, is run to a carefully managed safety standard.
Poronui operates under a fully audited health and safety system, with a dedicated team focused on protecting guests, staff, and guides across every part of the property. From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, your safety is in experienced hands.

The most popular is a short Air New Zealand domestic flight from Auckland to Taupo Airport (approximately 45 minutes), followed by a private vehicle transfer to the lodge (approximately 40 minutes).
