Early Season Fly-Fishing Escape
An exclusive invitation for the discerning angler
Spring arrives quietly in the backcountry—but for anglers, it’s one of the most exciting times to be here.
Book a four‑night stay this October and enjoy three days of guided early‑season fishing, with long soft light, active trout, and rested rivers.
Guests joining us during this period will be welcomed at a preferred spring rate, providing early‑season access to an experience crafted exclusively for discerning anglers.
Spring in the Backcountry
After months of seclusion, the rivers have been completely reshaped by the winter elements. The pools are fresh, the gravel is untracked, and the pressure of the previous season has been washed away.
For the angler who values the stillness of a valley over the noise of the crowds, this is the pinnacle of the New Zealand experience.
We invite you to join us for the spring opening and experience the backcountry before the rest of the world arrives: Your stay includes a complimentary night, giving you more time on the water.
Terms and conditions apply, package is subject to availability. Reservation policy applies.
Travel insurance is highly recommended.
Important Information
-
What are the benefits of Fly-fishing during the early season?Spring is for the angler who prefers a clean slate. The rivers have been rested for months, the trout are feeding with early-season confidence, and you are far more likely to have a world-class beat entirely to yourself.
-
What are the river conditions typically like during the opening?Expect high-clarity water and reshaped riverbeds. We monitor the flows daily to ensure we’re putting you on rivers that are stabilized, gin-clear, and prime for sight-fishing.
-
What level of fitness is required for a backcountry spring package? The New Zealand backcountry is a physical environment. Even with vehicle or helicopter access, you should be comfortable walking several miles a day over uneven river stones and navigating occasional scrub. Because the rivers have been reshaped by winter, some banks can be steeper or more bouldery than they appear in mid-summer. However, we adjust the pace to the angler.
