Poronui is a world away from major cities and their bustling restaurant scenes, yet the fabulous food and wine you will experience at Poronui is so typical of New Zealand’s low key, no fuss approach to regional gourmet excellence.
Food is one of the highlights of a stay at Poronui. Our resident chefs have honed their skills nationally and internationally and bring a touch of class to everything from breakfast to gourmet picnic lunches to pre-dinner canapés, dinner and dessert treats.
The Poronui philosophy on food includes sourcing locally and in season. Our chefs believe in true, uncluttered flavours. They see each meal as a celebration of private and shared moments.
The three accommodation options - The Lodge, Blake House and the Safari Camp have their own private dining each with its own particular focus on the dining experience.
There are two additional dining venues - the Wine Cellar and the Cabana (BBQ) both particularly suited for groups
The Wine Cellar
The Stables boasts one of New Zealand’s finest modern underground cellars designed by Queenstown architect John Blair. This unique dining space also features a collection of award winning local and international wines. The cellar lends itself to casual dinners, themed events, special occasions and celebrations, wine and whiskey tastings.
The long table stretching between two cavernous log fires is an ideal location for the traditional Kiwi BBQ or a gourmet feasting menu. The corrugated iron roof and optional curtain sides protect diners from the elements. This is an ideal venue for an event or celebration or a hearty meal following a day of activities.
Although completely private and secluded Poronui is only a 40 minute drive from Taupo township.
We are open for casual dining in the Wine Cellar and Cabana all year round, the Safari Camp during summer and the Blake House and Lodge during the winter months.
