The short stay package includes four nights high quality twin share accommodation, all meals, an open bar, same day laundry service and three days of guided fly fishing. This package is valid for stays from 1 October to 14 December. 

The price per single for the same package is NZ$4,740. Fishing licences and transfers are extra.

Why Early Season Fishing is Best

It is not well appreciated how special early season fishing in New Zealand really is....

The opening of the fly fishing season in New Zealand on 1 October means the local trout will have been undisturbed for months. Temperatures are still cool, but with longer days.  Brown trout become very active and there is excellent fishing with weighted nymphs along soft seams in most mountain streams. Some good evening hatches offering very good dry fly fishing at dusk.  

November and December are undoubtedly the best time to fly fish in mountain streams throughout New Zealand. The days are long and warm, the water is still cool, there are good mayfly hatches and the trout feed recklessly on the surface throughout the day. The fish are at ease and generally very enthusiastic towards the dry fly. This is the least crowded time to fly fish in New Zealand and the weather gradually becomes very settled.

Can't get away this year?    Late Season can also offer great fishing...

These early season short and long stay packages are only available for stays from 1 October until mid December. But if you can't get away this year - we also offer late season fishing packages at the same great rates, and these run from mid March 2012 until the end of the fly fishing season in New Zealand. And if you book and deposit before 31 August you'll get the extra 20% discount too.

Late March and April are also some of our best fly fishing months in New Zealand.  The weather tends to be very settled though water temperatures are starting to cool.  This, together with the onset of trout spawning at the end of the month, means fish are more active and feed longer!    Fishing tends to be a combination of dry fly and nymphs.  Although the nights are cooler the days are generally warm and sunny. 
 
As winter approaches and the headwater fisheries close at the end of April we focus our fishing on the Lake Taupo tributaries, which attract large numbers of rainbows from the lake at this time of the year, and the lower reaches of the back country streams and rivers.
