A young sika stag is the latest recipient of a bright orange collar. The stag was caught recently by helicopter and replaces an animal shot earlier in the winter. This brings the number of stags wearing radio collars to 10, five mature stags and 5 young animals.
With two additional collars recently donated to the program we will soon be able to extend the study to 12 stags.
The latest tracking shows all 10 stags on Poronui enjoying the early spring grass!

The Annual Sika Show is being held at the Taupo Events Centre, Spa Road, Taupo. Now in its 17th year, last year 4,500 people visited the show.
The Sika Show has been firmly established as New Zealand’s premier hunting and outdoor show. The Sika Show incorporates the annual Sika Hunting Competition and trade displays over two days.
Poronui will have a stand at the Show - come and see us and say Hi to Steve, Eve and the rest of the gang!! We will have posters showing some of the results of the Sika Tracking Study on display - find out where the adult and immature stags have been wandering...
