  • Sika Stag Tracking Study

Comments 0 | Posted by: Global Administrator,

While Steve was melting in 37 degree celsius temperatures in the US, Cam Speedy radio-tracked sika stags on another cold winter’s day in Poronui. He was able to locate all eight stags back on the property. Clearly, after the exertions of spending autumn womanising in the surrounding areas of native bush, our stags are happy to return to feed up again on the Poronui grassland!

This opportunity to regain condition prior to shedding antlers in September is a critical reason why Poronui stags grow such great antlers. If they can be in good shape when they cast these, stags will start growing velvet almost immediately, as opposed to needing to put on additional body condition first.

In another piece of good news, Cam has managed to acquire another tracking collar, so with luck there will be another stag, this time a spiker, resplendent in bright orange collar by the end of next week!

  • Triple Sporting Clays Challenge at Poronui

Comments 0 | Posted by: Global Administrator,

The Triple Sporting Clays Shooting Challenge was once again held at Poronui. Simon Dickie and the Eastern team hosted this exciting event. Three teams, the North, the East and the West challenged the reigning champions from the South.

Following very unsettled weather the day was one of those pet days with blue sky and no wind. Competition was fierce and the birds flew straight and true.

The twenty trap layout was certainly put to the test with singles, pairs and flurries the order of the day. A keen eye was essential as two guns competed side by side.
The course with its multiple shooting stations provided a terrific day of sport.

Nobody was exempt from heckling and points were won and lost throughout. At the end of the day, with a glass of champagne in hand, congratulations once again went to the South.

Strategies are already in place for June 2011.
