The Stables
Close to the main lodge, ‘The Stables’ is a modern sports and relaxation centre has gym and health club facilities - including steam and sauna rooms, and massage treatment rooms. Also located in this complex is a full-sized antique English billiard table, and close by is our Olympic standard sporting clays course.

Horse Riding
There are usually six or more horses stabled at Poronui. The modern stables and riding school offer both experienced and first-time riders everything that they need. Professional riding instructors and guides can be arranged – our guides are very skilled in horsemanship, know every inch of the property, are passionate about the outdoors, humorous and great fun to be with. With 16,000 acres of virgin native beech, exotic forest and open grassland to explore, the riding can suit both the novice and intermediate/advanced rider.
Bike Riding
Another great way to explore the property is on two wheels: high quality mountain bikes are available for use by our guests. There are more than 100 miles of roads and tracks that make their way through the hills and beside the streams. Guests can enjoy diverse landscapes, ranging from high alpine forests to low open grasslands. You’ll discover spectacular views, and gain insight into the pioneering history of the land.
Sporting Clays

The shooting school at Poronui has an armoury with a number of high quality loan guns and rifles, an ammunition magazine, and a separate field kiosk with cleaning facilities and refreshment bar.
The sporting clays course is built in a steep wooded valley with multiple shooting stations and a fully automated twenty trap layout.
A programmed remote release system allows for twenty singles, pairs and flurries to be shot at each shooting station - giving an unlimited variety of targets. The course has been designed for traps to simulate either upland game birds or waterfowl.
